HOW WE HELP
Clients are referred by local social service organizations, and have been homeless within the last 90 days.
AFS provides clients essential furniture and household items, which will allow them to perform daily tasks in an environment that functions well and is a source of pride. AFS gives items that are new or lightly used. Our volunteers ask, “would I be willing to have this in my home?” Providing quality items begins to break the cycle of poverty by showing clients they are not defined by their past circumstances. By reinforcing the message that they are worthy and valuable, we help them to begin to rebuild.

The process of receiving help from AFS begins by the client completing a request form and the referring organization completing a referral form. Once both completed forms are received, an AFS intake volunteer speaks with the client to confirm details, understand what they need and determine how they will receive their items. Both delivery and pick up are available, with pick up making wait times much shorter.

AFS stays in contact with the client through calls and text messages until they receive what they need. Some clients receive their items within 1 to 2 days, with others waiting up to several weeks. Client need fulfillment is primarily done on Tuesdays, Thursdays and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.
